Job Description

The Radiographer will be responsible for performing accurate, safe, and high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures to support clinical diagnosis and treatment, while ensuring compliance with Safe Care standards, radiation safety regulations, and national quality management systems. The role promotes patient safety, image quality, and ethical professional practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-ray, Ultrasound, CT-Scan and other radiological examinations, within the scope of practice.
  • Ensure correct patient identification, preparation, positioning, and instruction prior to imaging procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to radiation protection and safety principles to minimize patient and staff exposure.
  • Verify imaging requests for appropriateness and clinical indication before examination.
  • Produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain radiology equipment, reporting faults promptly for corrective action.
  • Ensure routine quality control checks and participate in preventive maintenance programs.
  • Accurately document imaging procedures and maintain proper patient records in RIS/EMR systems.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of radiographic materials where applicable.
  • Implement and adhere to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures in the imaging department.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and SafeCare assessments.
  • Report critical or urgent findings promptly to the requesting clinician as per policy.
  • Maintain compliance with radiation regulatory authority requirements and licensing standards.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality, professionalism, ethical standards, and respectful patient care at all times.

Skill & Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography or Medical Imaging Sciences from a recognized institution.
  • Higher Diploma in Radiography & Imaging will be an added advantage.
  • Valid practicing license from the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hospital or accredited diagnostic imaging facility.
  • Strong understanding of radiation safety, imaging protocols, and quality management systems.
  • Proficiency in Radiology Information Systems and Electronic Medical Records.
  • Strong attention to detail and image quality standards.
  • Excellent communication and patient care skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and adherence to safety standards.
