Job Description

To provide specialized clinical care for patients presenting with musculoskeletal injuries, fractures, and orthopedic conditions, supporting the orthopedic surgeon in the assessment, treatment, surgical assistance, and rehabilitation of trauma and elective orthopedic cases, while ensuring safe and evidence-based patient management across the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments of patients presenting with trauma and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Diagnose and manage fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries, and other orthopedic conditions within the scope of practice.
  • Provide emergency stabilization of trauma patients, including airway support, hemorrhage control, and shock management.
  • Perform fracture reduction, casting, splinting, traction application, wound care, and other minor orthopedic procedures.
  • Request and interpret diagnostic investigations, including X-rays and relevant laboratory tests.
  • Coordinate referrals for surgical intervention and specialized care when required.
  • Monitor inpatients and outpatients for recovery progress and complications.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical findings, procedures, and treatment plans in HMIS.
  • Implement and adhere to Infection Prevention and Control standards in all procedures.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of orthopedic equipment and trauma supplies.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on rehabilitation, mobility support, and injury prevention strategies.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality, ethical standards, professionalism, and respectful patient care at all times.

Skill & Experience

  • Diploma in Orthopedic and Trauma Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Registered with the relevant professional regulatory body in Kenya.
  • Strong clinical and technical competence in casting and orthopedic support procedures.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and sterile technique.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in emergency settings.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
