Job Description
To assess, plan, and implement individualized nutritional care for patients across all clinical departments, promoting optimal health outcomes through evidence-based dietary interventions, patient education, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team while supporting community and preventive nutrition programs aligned with the hospital’s wellness strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for inpatients and outpatients using standardized screening tools.
- Develop individualized nutrition care plans based on clinical diagnosis, laboratory findings, and patient needs.
- Provide therapeutic nutrition management for patients with chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, renal conditions, malnutrition).
- Offer nutrition counseling and education to patients, caregivers, and families to promote behavior change and treatment adherence.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and case reviews to integrate nutrition into overall patient management.
- Monitor and evaluate patients’ nutritional progress and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Lead malnutrition screening and prevention programs in line with national and international guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with SafeCare standards on clinical care, documentation, infection prevention, and patient safety.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nutrition assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Support development and implementation of hospital nutrition policies, protocols, and SOPs.
- Conduct nutrition-related health talks, community outreach programs, and wellness initiatives.
- Participate in audits, quality improvement projects, and data reporting to enhance service delivery.
- Collaborate with procurement and pharmacy teams to ensure availability of therapeutic feeds and nutrition supplies.
- Report and document any food safety concerns, adverse reactions, or quality issues in accordance with facility and regulatory guidelines.
Skill & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized institution.
- Valid practicing license from the relevant regulatory body (e.g., Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute – KNDI).
- At least 1–2 years’ experience in a clinical or hospital setting (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition, therapeutic diets, and public health nutrition.
- Familiarity with SafeCare standards and quality improvement frameworks (added advantage).
- Excellent counseling, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and data management skills.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and patient-centered approach.
